Rexam
Graphics (InteliCoat) media for large format inkjet printers.
Rexam Graphics (Rexam Image Products, now InteliCoat) is in
the top three of quality providers of ink jet media for large
format printers. We use Rexam media when we test the Encad
NovaJetPro wide format inkjet printer. You can get matte,
semi-gloss, gloss photo paper, canvus, or countless other
surfaces and kinds of media.
InteliCoat
media for wide format color printers is available in Europe
as well as in the USA, which helps our testing programs, since
we write reviews both in Germany and in the USA.
Intelicoat
makes media for a wide variety of printers including Iris,
Encad,
Epson,
ColorSpan,
and Hewlett-Packard. Of the several kinds of media one of
their new Proof It series is a two sided Matte. Since ink
jet media has to be surfaced to receive the ink, the media
tends to be prepared on only one side. After all, most posters
and banners are intended to be seen only from one side.
InteliCoat's
Proof It series comes in Gloss, Glossy paper (as opposed to
vinyl or other synthetic material), and "Publication."
Based on our survey of sign shops, by far the most popular
backlit for HP, Encad, and ColorSpan is backlit media from
Rexam.
If
you are attempting to do backlit with an Epson, Roland,
or other printer with a piezo printhead made by Epson, be
aware that your backlit may look weak and washed out. This
is not the fault of the media...its typical of piezo printhead
technology. If you want a stunning backlit, you need a thermal
printhead. That's why sign shops who depend on excellent backlit
prints tend to use Encad, HP, or ColorSpan printers, since
all three use thermal printhead technology.
As
this site develops into the year 2003 we will have more images
showing the quality of InteliCoat media.
For
additional information and for help making your decision,
ask for the "FLAAR Abstracts on signs, posters, banners"
(specify whether for indoor signs or outdoor signs in
the rain and sun) or order the FLAAR report on "Piezo
vs Thermal printheads, fact vs fiction, pros and cons
of each kind of inkjet printhead." You can also ask
order the report on "Media and Inks for Photo-Realistic
and Fine Art Giclee," or "Media and Inks for
Sign Printing with Large Format Inkjet."
If
this will be your first printer, then we have a special
report that holds your hand and leads you through all
the basic questions that will assist a first-time buyer
of a large format printer. Purchase
the FLAAR report on "RIP + Help." This explains
what RIP software is, why this is useful, and includes
tips, warnings, information, and help for a wide range
of matters for a newbie. Here you will really appreciate
that FLAAR is based at a university; Professor Hellmuth
has plenty of experience writing in a manner that explains
what you need, and why.
